| Descripción : | This study raises the issue of divine violence in 1 Samuel 15:3, in which God orders absolute destruction of the Amalekites. This biblical passage has been the subject of several very broad debates within theology and the pastoral field, as it leaves many questions about the nature of divine justice and the relationship it may have with God's mercy, since from an ethical perspective the command to exterminate an entire people seems to show a conflict with the image of a God who loves the world and is just in everything, which prompts us to carry out a deeper analysis of its historical context, its cultural and theological context. The general objective of this work is to analyze in depth divine violence in the Old Testament through an exegetical, hermeneutical and theological study of the biblical passage. In this way we seek to understand the original meaning of the passage and the relationship it has with divine justice and above all the importance it has in contemporary interpretation. To meet this objective, the historical and cultural context of the people of Israel and their war practices in ancient times have been studied, in order to understand in a broader way the worldview in which the mandate was given. In addition, an exegetical analysis of the Hebrew text has been carried out, thus studying the linguistic and literary structure, which has allowed us to give a clearer interpretation of the purpose of the biblical passage. Likewise, the theological interventions surrounding this passage within the theology of the covenant and the progressive revelation of the nature of God throughout the Bible have been investigated. In this research, the interview technique has been used, which has allowed us to collect precise information and has provided us with specialized points of view on the subject. In addition, this method has given us clarity on key Hebrew terms for proper biblical interpretation, to know the cultural background and understand from a theological point of view the sovereignty of God and divine justice in the Old Testament. In conclusion, this study shows us that 1 Samuel 15:3 must be analyzed from the framework of God's justice and the covenant He made with Israel. While it is true that the order to exterminate a people is ethically complex, the mandate is closely surrounded by the cultural context and the Holy nature of God, so this analysis has helped us to interpret in a clearer and deeper way its theological application within Christian theology. |
