Descripción : This study analyzes the symbolism of the tearing of the veil at the moment of Jesus' death, described in the Gospels (Matthew 27:51, Mark 15:38, Luke 23:45). The research seeks to explore its theological, historical and cultural implications through a hermeneutical and exegetical approach. The temple veil, which divided the Holy of Holies from the rest of the temple, represented the distance between God and humanity. Its tearing symbolizes the end of the Old Testament sacrificial system and the opening of direct access to God through Jesus. This event has been interpreted in various ways in Christian theology, from a sign of the new covenant to a unification between denominations. It is concluded that the tearing of the veil is a central symbol in Christian theology, representing reconciliation between God and humanity, the end of the Levitical priesthood and universal accessibility to the divine presence. Further studies on the historical context of the Jerusalem temple and patristic interpretations of the event are recommended.
